The first visitor was a snowflake. It landed on the chimney and decided to stay.
Soon the little house was wearing a roof of icing, the windows were glowing the color of honey, and a trail of cookie stars had appeared outside the door. Someone had tied a wreath to it. Someone else had left it just a little open.
There was no grand plan for Christmas here. A curl of orange peel, a few pine sprigs, the lovely crooked line of a roof decorated with more care than precision. The house looked as though it had been made at a kitchen table while a familiar song played in the next room.
In biscuit brown, soft cream and little touches of berry red, this floor mat brings that happy, homemade feeling to the places where December happens: beside the kitchen cabinets, inside the front door, beneath a favorite window. The stars still lead toward the cottage. There always seems to be one more person on the way.
