Details
The cards began arriving before the snow. Familiar handwriting, new return addresses, a photograph of children who had somehow grown another year.
Someone tucked a fir branch beneath the mailbox and left two parcels by the post. In the blue hour, the red box looks almost as welcoming as the front door.
Let it stand along the path as a small nod to the people who keep in touch. Pine green and postal red feel especially at home beside white siding, weathered wood and a porch waiting for company.
