Details
There was a fourth fig in the bowl before the guest arrived.
Now he hangs above the table, folded neatly into his own wings, with the innocent expression of someone waiting for dessert. Sage leaves lean over deep purple fruit; the cut fig brings a small, lovely shock of pink. It is a still life with an appetite.
Set the print among tobacco brown, cream and plum. A little strange, a little lush, it suits the room where dinner runs late and the conversation wanders long after the plates have been cleared.
